My first Rolex watch
Friday, January 23, 2009
I began metal detecting during my early teen years in Hawaii, but took a very long break (about 10 years).
I am now living in New Zealand and am getting back into the hobby.
The first house that we rented here in New Zealand was about 100 years old. I did a bit of detecting in the yard, but found mostly junk.
We are now living near a large park with the ocean on once side and an estuary on the other. The area we live in was very popular during the 1800s for a summer getaway. Earlier, it was also known as a location for trading among the Maori and whalers.
On my first day in the woods I found a broken 1950s coin. On my second day I found a 1920s coin. On my third day I found an1880s coin.
I have Been finding coins dating back 100 years during most of my hunts.. Along with a lot of old shot gun shells. The Forest is scattered with old midden deposits.
Last night I found a neat silver watch sitting next to a 1915 coin. The watch looks really old and seems to have a little door on its back, resembling a locket. The hinge is a bit corroded so I am going to take photos of it prior to opening it.
